12) Who & when developed .50 AE cartridge? - The .50 Action Express cartridge was developed in 1988 by Evan Whildin (Action Arms). .50 AE was specifically made for IMI Desert Eagle Pistol. That was the result of handgun performance upgrade program ;)The case has the same rim diameter & length as .44 magnum one, however the case itself has .547 inch diameter, so as his not very successfull predecessor .41 Mag this one too is rebated. This cartridge design gave IMI an advantage fo modifying Desert Eagle pistol without significant changes in its basic design. 300-350 grain round makes an excelent hunting choice for medium size game & good backup for dangerous game.
